The United States has confirmed something that sounds like it belongs in a science-fiction movie: secret space weapons are already in orbit around Earth.
Air Force Secretary Troy Meink revealed that the U.S. Space Force has “on-orbit space control weapons” designed to protect American military forces from hostile actions in space. However, he did not reveal what these weapons are, how they work, or when they were deployed.
The announcement is unusual because the Pentagon has traditionally kept details about its counter-space capabilities private.
What Are the Secret Space Weapons in Orbit?
The Pentagon has not explained the exact technology behind these systems. Meink also avoided saying whether they are kinetic or non-kinetic weapons.
Kinetic weapons physically hit or destroy a target. Non-kinetic systems can interfere with another system without physically destroying it.
